Whether you have had a good Mother, a good Grandmother or you want to be a Mother or Grandmother some day; whether you are a Christian or not, some Biblical principles will help you to forge stronger relationships with each other.
CHILDREN ARE A GIFT FROM GOD.
No one but God can create a baby. David said of God in Psalm 139 vs 13 “for You created me in my inmost being and You knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
That means God is the author of life. Life is sacred because man is made in the image of God.
CHILDREN ARE TO BE DEDICATED TO GOD.
After the Lord gave barren Hannah a son she said in 1 Samuel 1 vs 27-28, “I prayed for the child and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give him back to the Lord.” (In service)
CHILDREN ARE TO BE NOURISHED IN THE FAITH
The Apostle Paul told Timothy, “I am reminded of your sincere faith that dwelt first in your Grandmother Lois and your Mother Eunice and now I am sure dwells in you as well.” 2 Timothy 1 vs 5.
These 3 commandments are addressed to a Mother’s relationship to her children. Now let’s look at 3 more to show the childrens’ relationship to their Mother.
MOTHERS ARE TO BE HONORED
( Exodus 20 vs 12 ) “Honor your Father and your Mother.”
Most Mothers who have brought you into this world have made many sacrifices for you. Most Mothers have protected you, guided you, and watched out for you times without number. Honor them, protect them and treasure them.
MOTHERS ARE TO BE OBEYED
Even Jesus Himself, as a 12 year old boy was once in the temple as His highest priority. He told His frantic parents who could not find Him, “I had to be in my Father’s house.”
Then in Luke 2 vs 51, “Then He went down to Nazareth and was OBEDIENT to them.”
MOTHERS ARE TO BE PROVIDED FOR
Widow Mary heard the words of her dying son Jesus on the cross. They were directed to John His disciple. “Dear woman, here is your son and to His disciple, here is your Mother. From that time on John took her into his home.” John 19 vs 27 and 28.
HONOR, OBEY, PROVIDE FOR YOUR MOTHERS
Even if they are difficult to get along with. Honor them as you honor Christ. They may need help financially, they may be sick and need you to take care of them, to clean for them, to care for them.
If they have passed on, honor their memory. I have many fond memories of my own special Mother that will live on in my mind and heart forever.
Happy Mother’s Day
