Can anyone make too much of the cross of Christ? Can one overstress the importance of the death of Christ? Aren’t Christians called and commanded to carry their crosses daily? Aren’t believers to boast in the cross of Christ? Can the Lord’s shedding of His precious blood as our sinless substitute ever be minimized?
Only one thing is greater than the embodied Cross of Christ and that is the Empty Cross of Christ.
We need Good Friday but we also need RESURRECTION SUNDAY.
No Death, No Resurrection. No Resurrection, No Hope.
The Lord turned the darkness of GOOD FRIDAY into the light of RESURRECTION SUNDAY.
How many sermons do you hear about the Resurrection of Christ? It is usually only at Easter. We do not worship the Lord on Good Friday, but each Sunday Christians attest to the resurrection of Christ on the Lord’s day.
The cross must not eclipse the Resurrection. The darkness of His cry of “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?” gives way to the bright glory of the angel’s statement, “He has risen just like He said He would, come see the place where He lay.” (Matthew 28:6)
If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. (1 John 1:6 )
“But if we walk in the light, as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another and the Blood of Jesus His Son purifies us from all sin.”
Simply put, if we believe Jesus has risen from the dead and we confess our sins and receive Him as both Lord and Saviour, we will walk in the light and life of His glorious resurrection.
If you believe this you will have the best Easter, for that is the true meaning of Resurrection Sunday.
