The pre-existent Lord who dwells in the highest heavens came down to earth. Eternity invaded time as Jesus came down to Bethlehem, a hamlet, to be born to a teenaged peasant girl from Galilee (Mary). The One who fills eternity with His presence became a baby- a fetus- a cell.
PROPHECY This fulfilled prophecy “therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign. The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a Son and will call him Immanuel which means God with us.” (Isaiah 7 vs 14)
PRESENTS The Magi or astrologers presented Him with gifts of Gold, Incense and Myrrh. (Matthew 2 vs 11)
GOLD was a symbol for kingship.
INCENSE represented deity.
MYRRH represented death. (embalming oil)
PRAISE Any encounter with Jesus properly understood will compel one to praise God for His greatest gift, His Son for us. Further praise was exhibited when Gabriel the angel encountered Mary and told her that she would bear The Christ Child. She sang THE MAGNIFICAT “My soul glorifies the Lord and my Spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.” (Luke 1 vs 46)
When the heavenly host saw the baby wrapped in cloths lying in a manger, they responded by praising God- In excelsis Deo “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace and goodwill toward men.” (Luke 2 vs 14)
Devout Simeon had it revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord Jesus. Luke 2 vs 28 & 29 tells us that Simeon took the baby in his arms and praised God saying, “Now dismiss your servant in peace.” Nunc dimittis.
Jesus came down, down, down to lift you up from the pit, up from your sin and finally one day up into Heaven with Him forever.
Jesus is God’s greatest gift to all who repent of their sins, who unwrap their hearts, repent and ask for forgiveness.
“Though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as white as snow.” (Isaiah 1 vs 8) That is the True Meaning of having a WHITE CHRISTMAS.
