Port Cares Reach Out Centre Receives $5,200 Donation

On Tuesday November 29th in Port Colborne at the 61 Nickel Street Foodbank location, the month ended on a positive note. The positive vibes came to life when Port Cares Reach Out Centre received an unexpected donation from Wainfleet Congregational Christian Church.

Donation Supports Foodbank’s Children’s Lunch Kit Program

At the cheque presentation, Pastor Gary Tomiuck on behalf of the Wainfleet Congregational Christian Church impressed Reach Out Centre Manager Amanda Upper with a cheque donation of $5,200 in support of the foodbank’s school children’s lunch kit program.

“Our Church relocated, after the sale of our building on Highway 3, and now we want to put the funds from the sale back into the community, so this is where we are starting.”

Pastor Gary Tomiuck, Wainfleet Congregational Christian Church

When asked about the source of the funds and why they chose to give to Port Cares, Pastor Tomiuck explains:

“We know there are a wide spectrum of community needs and recognize the good work of Port Cares providing vital assistance to residents of Port Colborne and Wainfleet; we want to help.”

The help is appreciated and needed more than ever before as the Reach Out Centre foodbank has experienced a staggering increase in demand for food support and are currently serving 2,529 local individuals.

Most of 2,500 on Food Support Are Under 18 Years & Seniors

We need the community support more than ever before to keep up with demand. Of the over 2,500 actively accessing food support, majority of which are children under the age of 18 and seniors surviving on fixed incomes. We are primarily serving truly the most vulnerable of our community.
